Daily puzzle API

Get the daily chess puzzle for today or a past date, with its position, rating, themes and solution.

Get the daily chess puzzle

GET https://www.chessigma.com/public-api/v1/daily-puzzle

Returns the single daily puzzle for today, or a past date via ?date=YYYY-MM-DD. Returns exactly one puzzle. The full puzzle database is not exposed.

Query parameters

date string, optional

Past date in YYYY-MM-DD format. Defaults to today. Future dates are rejected.

Response fields

date string

The puzzle's date, YYYY-MM-DD.

puzzleId string

fen string

Position in FEN notation.

sideToMove string, one of white, black

rating integer

The puzzle's difficulty rating.

themes array of strings

solution array of strings

Moves in UCI notation; first move sets up the puzzle.

gameUrl string or null (uri)

The game the puzzle comes from, when known.

Errors

400 Invalid date parameter
429 Rate limit exceeded
500 Internal server error

Errors and limits

Every error is a JSON object whose error field says what went wrong.
All endpoints share one limit of 30 requests a minute across every caller, with no API key. Over it the API answers 429 with a Retry-After header in seconds.
